My faithful prayer partners in the Faith and in the Defense of the Gospel (Phil. 1:5, 7),
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God, our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Phil. 1:1)
I STAND AMAZED!

Thank you very much for praying for a speedy and full recovery for me after my thyroid operation on April 27. Today, friends are amazed at the healing process as they scrutinize my neck for scars to find none. But, more than that. This time I am the one who is amazed as to where I got my strength to last the marathon speaking sessions (see report that follows) so soon after my operation. For both, my friends and I, there can be only one answer,

He said unto me,
My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. II Cor. 12:9

Yes, dearly beloved saints, join hands with me to praise the Lord for such marvelous grace and strength given to me to minister unto Him and His people this term. It is beyond what I can ever imagine or hope for. See for yourself and praise the Lord as you read the following reports.

This term (June-Sept) will be etched in my memory for a long time for the marathon hours of speaking and traveling I had to do. And through them all the Lord kept me going, safe and secure.

On 16th May, my wife and I held a Thanksgiving Morning Coffee at BRGH for the safe thyroid operation and recovery.

On 28th May (one month after my operation) my wife and I left for Grace Chapel Church Retreat, held at Perkasa Hotel, Mt. Kinabalu Kundasang.  I spoke on The Seven-Year Glitch or the prophetic chapters of Daniel.  This was my third consecutive year with Grace Chapel. According to them, this was a record in the history of their Church Retreats to have the same speaker for three successive years. I am grateful to the Oversight for their gracious invitation and I stand amazed!

This year my wife was invited to accompany me to 'ensure' that I did not strain myself unduly so soon after my operation. She was not successful! The enthusiasm of the participants saw to that. They even "robbed" me of the twenty-minute break between each two-hour sessions as they took the opportunity to ask further questions on the studies. Thus, I was on my feet for almost 4½ hours at a stretch for two mornings, not to count another 2-hour session at night for the three days I was at the Retreat. It was a wonderful time I had with Grace Chapel. Thank you for the privilege of service and the generous hospitality extended to my wife and me during our stay there.

On the way home from Sabah on June 2nd, we stayed at our daughter's home in KL and took two nights (June 5, 6) of teaching ministry on Rev. 17 and 18 – The Beauty and The Beast/s as well as their Sunday morning ministry at Kepong Gospel Centre. It was my first time there, though a couple of years ago I took their Family Camp at Cameron Highlands. It was a very sweet reunion for all of us.

From 2nd to 9th July, I was invited to join the MMS team of six other brethren for a Mission Tour to Myanmar. We visited the Hebron Assembly in Yangon as well as the Ebenezer Assembly in Pyin-oo-lwin near Mandalay. Our night bus trip there took nearly 20 hours one way. In our three-day trip to Mandalay, we hardly slept for more than six hours at a stretch.

Yet we did not feel any the worse. Truly, I stand amazed! – especially for me who is a habitual afternoon-napper!  All of us returned to Malaysia with hearts touched by what we saw and experienced.  In that military-suppressed country, our 40 or so brethren assemblies are flourishing and well-grounded on NT principles and practices. We were struck and amazed by their faith in God to supply all their needs, the commitment of the servants of the Lord and the sacrifice in leaving well-paid secular jobs to serve the Lord at a basic gift of an equivalent RM6.00 per month!

We were also amazed at their deep interest in the Word – so that a Bible study short of three hours is not regarded as complete.

On August 18, three members of the Mission Team, Mr. Ernest Poon, Mr. Lim Seok Hoay and Mr. Chris Chen, and I reported our Mission to a special combined Mission Night gathering of all Penang assemblies. It was a Memorable Mission to Myanmar Night. And what a night it was, as we stood amazed at what the Lord was doing. Those who came contributed a total sum of RM11,635.00 for the Lord's work in Myanmar when the bag was passed round that night!  My report of the Mission was attached to The ECHOS that was distributed that night. Those interested in the 7-page pictorial report can request for one either by post or email.

On 16th to 18th July, I was at Kledang Community Chapel, Ipoh to take a two-hour study every night including Sunday morning on The Feasts of Yahweh.  The assembly there had just renovated the hall by removing the pillars that blocked the view of the audience. It was perfectly timed, as my two big canvas charts could then be displayed in full view of all. We were amazed by the panoramic survey of God's programme from the Cross to the Crown in the Feasts in Lev. 23.

On 21st August, I left for Taiping amid flood problems in my home, to take the morning service at Taiping Gospel Hall the next day, and to commence my lectures on Eschatology at GLO Training School from Monday onwards. The time allotted to me was a three-hour session for each of the five mornings. But it extended into a marathon session of almost five hours each morning, with additional three hours in the 2nd and 3rd afternoons and another three hours on the last day. All in all my 16-hr allocation stretched to 24 hours. What was amazing were the four retirees who kept pace with their 10 other younger counter parts in following the course through, including sitting for their tests at the end. My amazement at the people's thirst to study the Word never ends!

Sept. 3-5, my wife accompanied me to Batu Gajah for three nights and one Sunday morning ministry on The Feasts of Yahweh at the Gospel Hall there. In addition I was invited to speak at the Chinese assembly, the Youth Group and a Question & Answer session.  We drove there, as immediately after the special meetings, we had to leave for Cameron Highlands Christian Centre where our home assembly held a Family Camp there from 5th-8th Sept. It was a welcome rest, as well as a great honour to sit at the feet of Mr. Koh Tin Tiew from Klang Gospel Hall who was giving very practical studies at the Camp. The hymn Trust and Obey never meant as much to me as when I listened to the Lord's message again and again, thumping into my thick head, "Where you cannot understand, TRUST; where you can, OBEY."  It was a message well emphasized and understood.

Sept. 17-19, my wife and I took a bus to Cheras Gospel Centre at the invitation of the assembly there. For two nights and one Sunday morning, we studied The Beauty and the Beast from Dan. Chs. 2, 7, 8 and Rev. 17.  I was delighted to catch up with two members of the Myanmar Mission Team, Mr. Lim Seok Hoay, the elder of Cheras assembly, and Mr. Ernest Poon, chairman of MMS who specially came for the Sunday morning study. The members of the Team are going to various assemblies in the Klang Valley to report on the Myanmar Mission too.

This trip would be my last out-of-Penang speaking engagement for the rest of the year.  For the remaining months, I would be going round the Penang assemblies. Last month in my own assembly at BRGH, I just completed a study on Zooming in on Zechariah – a monthly study of the book of Zechariah since 17th January of this year, apart from brief studies on Songs of Solomon and Jeremiah. These OT books (including Leviticus and Daniel – the focus of my itinerary studies this term) have thrilled me no end as I stand amazed at the beauty and accuracy of God's Word.

Again I would like to take this opportunity to thank a couple of anonymous believers at BRGH (there's no other way to acknowledge your generosity other than this) and other individuals and assemblies for sharing with me your blessings from the Lord, so that I can share some of the same with the following:-

For the rest of the year and the dawning of the new millennium, three projects stand out for which I appreciate much prayer.

1) The Planning for the BRGH 4th Annual Workers' Conference on Nov. 7 & 8, and the preparation and presentation of a paper on Meet for the Millennium with the following sub-titles:
* A: The Challenge of A Continued Leadership at all levels of Assembly Life Thru' to the Next Generation.
* B: The Changes Needed to the Structure and Format of Assembly Meetings and Gatherings in the Face of Information Technology in the next Millennium.
* C: The Commitment to a Personal and Pastoral Concern and Care for individual members of the assembly in the face of Changes in the Coming Millennium
2)  The Northern Region Fellowship Camp for married and unmarried singles to be held from 25th –27th Nov. at Bukit Merah Theme Park, Perak. I have been invited to speak on the Theme, Made for the Millennium. This Camp seeks to foster fellowship among the potential leaders in our assemblies, and to challenge them to lead fulfilled lives for the Lord in obeying and doing His Will.
3) The preparation of the annual Chinese New Year Message on the animals of the respective years. Next year, it will be The Year of The Dragon. From Jan 23, 2000 to Feb. 27, I shall be visiting seven assemblies every Sunday in Penang to speak on this theme. For those outside Penang who would like to have a copy of the outline study, you can make a request for it.
Personal Prayer Points:
* A post-nasal drip into my voice-box  makes my voice hoarse and occasionally makes me almost lose it completely. This is due to a congenital crooked nose-bone and an allergy to dust and petrol-fume pollution. It has been with me for almost my life-time, but lately it has been much aggravated to interfere with my speaking ministry. Pray that it might not hamper me in my service for the Lord.
* My 4-year deferment of my cataract surgery seems to be coming to an end, as my vision starts to blur again. I am not sure if it can be remedied with another change of eye-glasses; if not, I may take advantage of the extra-long school holidays to have it done once and for all. I value your prayer in this area.
4) Personal Praise Points:
Praise the Lord for…..
* His Greatness in ministering to my needs,
His Goodness towards me and my wife,
His Guidance in leading me to places where He wants me to minister to His people for the past two years - October 20 being the 2nd Anniversary of Commended Service for me.
* His Care and Concern, Provision and Protection as he opens the doors of ministry for me to travel to Singapore, Sabah, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar to minister God's Word. And on my own, to the United States to visit my son, and to Israel to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
* Prayer Partners like all of you for the Personal and Practical interest you take in my ministry for the Lord.
* The Godly saints in my home assembly and the various other Gatherings I have been to, for their Hospitality and Generosity in being Partners with me so that I can be a Partner with others in God's Vineyard – being all of us co-labourers with Him. I Cor. 3:9

Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Lim Seok Hoay for allowing me space in the Cheras Gospel Centre Homepage for one of my own. Some of my sermon outlines (including The Year of the Dragon/The Rabbit/ The Tiger, etc.), my testimony and commendation, papers that I have written, etc. will be there by next year (DV). I am gradually updating the site at the moment. The URL is at the top of this Berita for those who are interested. I shall also appreciate any feedback regarding it.

May the Lord continue to bless you all for your consistent and fervent prayer support for, and practical partnership with me.

My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.   Phil. 4:19, 20
As my next Berita Bethel may not be out until the next Chinese New Year, I take this opportunity, and on behalf of my wife as well, to wish all of you
